Walking

We have made a distinction here between hiking and walking. In the “Walking” category we focus on the less arduous walks as the nearby mountains are quite rugged the walks there can be quite strenuous and demanding. Walks in the “Walking” category, however, are less up and down and can take place in a more leisurely fashion.
Of all the benefits that come from walking, perhaps peace of mind is the most prevalent. Research shows that just 10 minutes of walking can lift your spirits. Imagine then what a two hour walk in the Jalon Valley, La Vall de Gallinera or along the river Guadalest will do to your spirits, not to mention your body. That walking is good for one’s physical health is no secret, but that walking contributes to reduced stress, better sleep and improvement in mood is probably less known.

Add to that enhanced immune system, improved digestive system, delayed onset of varicose veins, alleviation of joint pain, reduced risk of chronic disease and the question begets: why don’t we all walk more? Modern day studies confirm what Hippocrates already knew some 2.400 years ago when he proclaimed that “walking is man’s best medicine.” He also knew that walking provided more than mere physical benefits when he suggested: “If you are in a bad mood, go for a walk. If you are still in a bad mood, go for another walk.”
On the Costa Blanca the walking conditions are close to perfect. There are walks along the coast, in the valleys, from village to village, along river beds, in the countryside and some relatively easy walks in the mountains. We are more than happy to make recommendations.
